Who we are

Scribe (noun): A writer, a journalist, someone employed to copy manuscripts

We are James and Lee Scrivener, a married couple in our thirties, who love travelling, writing and everything social media. Our surname loosely translates as ‘writer’, and that’s what we are: Two writers and marketers who are taking our spirit for wanderlust, our passion for the written word and our burgeoning Instagram profile, and turning it into this website.

From London, England and Cape Town, South Africa respectively, we met whilst James was posted to Cape Town for work. Two cats and two more countries later (Germany and the UK), we decided to take the plunge and live life a little differently on the road. We’re currently full-time travellers, while Lee tries her hand at penning her first novel and James satisfies his newfound penchant for photography, through our Instagram feed.

We like to call ourselves ‘moderate meanderers’, in that our travel style isn’t speedy, nor is it slow. And we fit smack bang in the middle of the budget: sometimes we stay at hostels (in a private room of course), and other times we’d splash out on a more upmarket hotel room; we’re firmly in the mid-range. We also like to think we’re travellers, rather than tourists, although you can decide that for yourself.

We hope you enjoy the advice, anecdotes and articles we put together for this website, The Travel Scribes.
