Philippines

It’s a place that almost defies description. The Philippines, the country boasting more than 7,000 islands, is home to the ‘most beautiful island in the world’, Palawan. Think pristine white shores, Colgate-coloured blue water, incredibly cheap experiences and days spent out on the ocean, exploring untouched pockets of the world.

We’ll admit – we’ve only explored Palawan and we didn’t do enough of it, since we were caught in the tail-end of a typhoon. That said, what we saw in Palawan has left us hungry for more, so much so, we could easily see ourselves retiring to the Philippines.

The Philippines is just blessed with so many natural beauty. Palawan, for example, has three incredible places you must see before you die: Coron, El Nido and Puerto Princesa. For Puerto Princesa, you’ll spend your time traversing the underground river and exploring the city centre, with self-guided walks to the World War II museum, PPC Cathedral and the Heritage Museum.

For El Nido and Coron, it’s all about island-hopping. Taking tours to exquisite islands, white beaches and spending your time snorkelling with the most incredible marine life. We particularly loved a few spots like the Green Lagoon and Kayangan Lake in Coron, although the Twin Lake, where you need to swim through a ‘hole’ in the cliff probably stole our hearts.

Want endless sunshine, deserted islands and delicious food? For sure the Philippines is for you!
